RES 1233 8/27/2002 RESOLUTION NUMBER 1�
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF CIBOLO OPPOSING
ANY NEW TAXES, INCREASED TAXES, OR UNFUNDED
MANDATES BY THE 78TH LEGISLATIVE SESSION.
WHEREAS, state legislators have already mailed out questionnaires and
publicly discussed the possibility of creating a state income tax, state property
tax, and other new state taxes; and
WHEREAS, state legislators have already mailed out questionnaires and
publicly discussed the possibility of increasing the state sales tax, expanding
other state taxes, and increasing state fees; and
WHEREAS, unfunded mandates create a financial burden on local governments
and constitute another form of increased taxation; and
WHEREAS, nowhere in history has any government ever successfully taxed its
citizens into prosperity;
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of Cibolo opposes
any new taxes, increased taxes, or unfunded mandates during the upcoming
legislative session. We also urge our state legislature to exercise good fiscal
discipline and responsibility by adopting a balanced budget with existing state
taxes.
