RESOLUTION NO. 14 5 8
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CIBOLO, TEXAS, TO SUPPORT
PURSUING THE CREATION OF A JOINT METROPOLITAN PLANNING ORGANIZATION
BETWEEN COMAL AND GUADALUPE COUNTIES AND CITIES WITHIN THESE
COUNTIES
WHEREAS, in 1962, the United States Congress passed legislation that required the
formation of an MPO for any urbanized area (UZA) with a population greater than 50,000 to
funnel funding for transportation projects and programs, and
WHEREAS, this federal funding is to be spent in a manner that has a basis in
metropolitan region-wide plans developed through intergovernmental collaboration, rational
analysis, and consensus-based decision making, and
WHEREAS, the City of New Braunfels has been experiencing growth at a rate of 5 to
6% annually since 2000; and
WHEREAS, the population of the City of New Braunfels has expanded to 57,740
according to the US Census, and
WHEREAS, the City of New Braunfels, City of Seguin, Comal and Guadalupe Counties
joined together in 2011 to create a regional transportation plan to use as the baseline to create
the MPO and
WHEREAS, the City of Cibolo as well as other Cities within Comal and Guadalupe
Counties are invited to join the regional metropolitan planning organization to increase the
regional approach to transportation and planning.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CIBOLO, TEXAS:
That the City of Cibolo would like to further pursue and evaluate the benefits of the creation and
joining a regional metropolitan planning organization to serve the communities transportation
needs within the Guadalupe and Comal County region.
