ORDINANCE 1115
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF CIBOLO, TEXAS,
AMENDING CHAPTER 74 SECTION 74-9.8 OF THE CODE
OF ORDINANCES .BY CHANGING THE SCHOOL ZONE
HOURS FOR ALL ELEMENTARY, INTERMEDIATE AND
JR. HIGH,CAMPUSES; PROVIDING FOR SIGNAGE; AND
PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS the City Council of the City of Cibolo, Texas desires to protect the safety
and welfare of its citizens; and
WHEREAS the City Council has previously established school zones regulating the
speed=of motor-vehicles for areas surrounding certain schools throughout the City of Cibolo as
well as corresponding hours within which those school zones are in effect; and
WHEREAS, the city staff has since determined that based on citizen input and analysis
conducted by staff with respect to when school children actually travel to their respective school
locations that the current school zone hours are insufficient to properly protect those children
from vehicles traveling at a high rate of speed:as they commute to and from school; and
WHEREAS,the City Council hereby fords that amending the current school zone hours is
necessary to to protect the safety of school children on their way to and from school.
NOW THEREFORE,BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CIBOLO,TEXAS,THAT:
Section 1. Article IV of Chapter 74 Section 74-98 of the Code of Ordinances.is amended to
read as follows:
(a) Elementary schools. It is unlawful for a person to drive or operate a vehicle at a speed in
excess of 20 miles per hour on the following streets, or portions thereof,hereby
designated as school-zones,when signs are in place giving-notice of the speed limit, on
Monday through Friday, when-school is in session, during the hours of 7:00 a.m.to 8:30
a.m. and 2:30 p.m.to 4:00 p.m. at the following locations:

(b)-Intermediate Schools. The following streets, or portions.thereof, are designated as school
.zones and it is unlawful for a person to drive or operate a vehicle at a speed in excess of
20 miles per hour in any of those zones when signs are in place giving notice of the speed
limit, on Monday through Friday,when school is in session, during the hours of 7:00 a.m.
to 8:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the following.locations:
(c) Junior High Schools. The following streets, or portions thereof, are designated as school
zones and it is unlawful for a person to drive or operate a vehicle at a speed in excess of
20 miles per hour in any of those zones when signs-are in place giving notice of the speed
limit, on Monday through Friday, when school is in session, during the hours of 7:00 a.m.
to 8:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m:at the following locations:
Section 2. The Chief of Police-or his designee shall erect school zone and speed limit
signs in conformance with the Texas Transportation Commission's Manual on Uniform

Section 3.Repealer:
All ordinances and parts of ordinances in conflict herewith are.hereby repealed.
Section 4. This Ordinance shall be in full force and effect on the date the traffic control
device is erected.
