his presence at the first meeting in January to attempt to complete action

Ordinance.

A Telephone Franchise was discussed briefly but action was held in
abeyance until January Lith meeting.
Mayor Schlather reported that he had talked with former City Attorney
Bruns concerning the United Gas Franchise. Mr. Bruns recommended that
we grant no franchise since no real advantage would accrue to the City.
However, Alderman Ling was instructed to rewrite the section of the
proposed United Gas Franchise requiring United Gas to extend their lines
a greater distance for industrial or heavy commercial customers . Also

pass Ordinance No . 47 granting a 15 year franchise to United Gas .
Alderman Ling reported on the progress of the City Park development . Linda
visited the Parks and Wildlife Department in Austin last week to present
our application for a grant to assist in the Park development . The
application was not sufficiently complete for their use. However, the
application was accepted and they gave Linda a list of additional information
which will be required. Alderman Ling briefed the Council on the need for
obtaining and identifying donated material and labor for the Park develop-
ment . Mayor Schlather is to contact the county forces to have the county
haul the gravel required for the parking lots for the Park prior the closure
of the pit this month.
