1. CALL TO ORDER: 7:00 p.m. Mayor John A. Sippel
2. QUORUM CHECK: Mayor John A. Sippel, Councilmembers Nirider, Smith,
Swenson, Thurman, Wiederstein; Chief of Police Jeronimo
Marin, Jr; Building Inspector Andrew Tolle; Clerk
Iva Amacker.
3. CITIZENS TO BE HEARD: None
4. INVOCATION: Bill Wiederstein
5. MINUTES: Marge Smith (Josie Nirider) moved the minutes of the
August 7, 1980 meeting be approved. All approved.
6. OLD BUSINESS: A. Repairing the tractor was discussed. Andrew has a mechanic
who can work on tractor. It needs extensive repairs
including a fan belt, battery, gear box and work on
steering. It was agreed that Andrew's mechanic should
repair tractor.
B. Sig Swenson inquired as to whether or not letters had been
sent to property owner on South St . asking him to clean
up his lot. Chief Marin replied that letter had not been
sent to property owner.
C. Mrs . Nirider asked what can be done about dogs on
school grounds . Chief Marin asked that people come in
and sign a complaint against the owners of the dogs,
inasmuch as he cannot legally do anything unless he
sees the animal.
The Council discussed the stray dog problem in our area .
Several citizens have called to have stray dogs picked up.
Jerry will contact Mr. Desch (Schertz Animal Control
Officer) to see if a contract can be worked out whereby
Mr. Desch will collect our stray dogs .
7. NEW BUSINESS: A. Sig Swenson (Gerald Thurman)moved we offer a $50.00
reward to the person who provides the information that
leads to the arrest and conviction of anyone deliberately
tearing down or destroying street signs and any other
city property. All approved.
B. Mayor Sippel explained the proposed breakdown of employee
time sheet . The question of paying mileage for use of
private vehicle was discussed.
Gerald Thurman (Bill Wiederstein) moved we pay 20¢ a, mile
for use of private vehicle. All approved.
C. Presently city employees are being paid monthly. This is
not always convenient for hourly employees . Marge Smith
(Sig Swenson) moved that employees on an hourly wage
may be paid once a week if they so desire. Time to start
on Friday and end on the following Thursday. All approved.
D. Our lawnmowers are presently out-of-order. The cost of
purchasing the large mower that we require is prohibitive
at this time. Gerald Thurman will take our larger mower
to his repairman and see what it will cost to repair.
E. Councilmembers reviewed the Texas Municipal Report.
8. BILLS TO BE APPROVED: Marge Smith (Josie Nirider) moved the bills be
approved for payment. All approved.
