Cibolo Youth Advisory Council Meeting

6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
1. Call to Order — The meeting was called to order at 6:33 p.m.
2. Roll Call — Members Present: Brook Merritt, Genavieve Jones, Elijah Jones, Elijah Jones, Madison
Gastol, Nalah Ashby, Parker Gilman, Wesley Jeffords, Tralee Warren, Daniel Hall, and Bennett
Cunningham; Members Absent: Eli Mitchell (e-mail sent), Jason McGhee, Layla Kines, Michael Boyd,
Alen, Girard, Janeson Ardis, and India Kines
3. Oath of Office
The Oath of Office was given to Brook Merritt and Madison Gastol by the City Secretary.
4. Elections
A. Chairman
B. Vice Chairman
The election of the Chairman and Vice Chairman will be held at the February 6, 2025 Youth
Council Meeting.
5. Consent Agenda
A. Approval of the minutes of the November 7, 2024, Youth Council meeting.
Mr. Jeffords made the motion to approve the consent agenda. The motion was seconded by Ms.
Merritt. For: All; Against: None. The motion carried 10 to 0.
6. Discussion
A. Discussion on the Mission and Vision: Presentation on the council's mission, including how it
serves the community and supports youth involvement in local government.
The Group discussed the tenets of a good vision statement. There were several ideas discussed,
and the group agreed that youth engagement, transparency/accountability, equality, and safety
were the tenets to build a vision statement upon. The Youth Council members were given an
assignment to return with some examples of a vision statement that included those tenets.
B. Discussion on both immediate and long-term goals (e.g., increasing youth engagement,
working on specific community projects, providing feedback to the city council).
Sone of the issues brought up and discussed by the group to address for the youth in Cibolo were:
1. Vaping. 2. Drug use in schools, 3. Park usage by youth, 4. A skate park, 5. Chalk Art Day, and
6. Planter pot decorating.
C. Discussion on the Responsibilities and Expectation as presented at the November meeting.
To have more time for a brainstorm session this item was not discussed at this time.
7. Brainstorm Session: Youth -Centric Issues and Ideas
A. Break down into groups and discuss what items the Youth Council wants to focus on in the next
couple months and items to focus on later in the year.
The group decided to discuss this item as a group instead of breaking down into smaller groups.
Several issues were proposed, such as developing an Instagram page that is youth focused, better
targeted communication for youth within Cibolo, mental health resources for students, and better
library services for youth.
8. Items for future agendas.
Elections for Chairman and Vice Chairman and Vision Statement will be on the next agenda.
9. Adjournment: The meeting was adjourned at 8:00 p.m.
