A possible quorum of the City Council may attend the Parks & Recreation meeting. MINUTES 1. Call to Order. Jennifer Schultes called the meeting to order at 6:03pm. 2. Roll Call. Jennifer Schultes Don Downey Ed Weinstein Stosh Boyle Glenn Gonzales Michael LaMonica Jennifer Stevenson Meghan Bailey -arrived 6:10 pm. Mayor Pro Tem- Steve Liparoto Robert T. Herrera- City Manager Tim Fousse- Public Works Director Alex Gonzalez- Park Superintendent Sheila Edmondson- Asst. City Secretary 3. Moment of Silence. Brief moment of silence. 4. Pledge of Allegiance. All rose and recited the pledge of allegiance. 5. Citizens to be Heard: This is the opportunity for visitors and guests to address the Parks and Recreation Commission on any issue. Parks and Recreation Commission Council may not debate any non -agenda issue, nor may any action be taken on any non -agenda issue at this time however the Parks and Recreation Commission may present any factual response to items brought up by citizens. (Attorney General Opinion — JC 0169) (Limit of five minutes each). None at this time. 6. Presentation by Vickery and Associates on the Baseball/Softball/Athletic Complex. (Mr. Herrera) City Manager Herrera spoke to the committee on the plan to move forward with the Baseball/Softball/Athletic Complex. In 2008, the citizens approved 27.9 million dollars in bonds and this project was one of them. Location is south of FM 78. The area is approx. 45-60 acres. Brady Baggs from Vickery and Associates presented the tentative plan for the complex. Pedestrian access would be under FM 78, so the parking at City Hall could be utilized. They will bring back more details of this project in approx. 45 days. Discussion/Action Grand Opening Schlather Park and Disc Golf Tournament. The Grand Opening for Schlather Park and Disc Golf Tournament is scheduled for Aug. 10, 2013 at 8:00 am. The ribbon cutting ceremony will start at promptly at 8:00 am with the tournament starting immediately after that. There are 78 players signed up for the tournament. The funds raised will go to Project Grad program. Volunteers are still needed. Committee members were asked to volunteer and to arrive at the park at 7:00 am. 8. Discussion/Action on Boy Scout project Alex Putman would like to do his Eagle Scout project for Schlather Park. His project is to put a 30 foot flag pole at the entrance of Schlather Park. He would raise funds for the materials and plan the project out. Ed Weinstein made a motion to make a recommendation to City Council on approval of Alex Putman's Scout Project. Meghan Bailey seconded the motion. All in favor, none opposed. Motion passed 7-0. 9. Staff Update/Discussion on Niemietz, Rich, Veterans and Schlather Parks. Tim Fousse gave a staff update on the parks. The baseball fields are being rented frequently. Fall baseball is getting started keeping the field busy. Football season has started as well. The Multi -Event Center is rented out every Saturday and Sunday for all of September, October and first week in November. The trees and Schlather Park that were dying and under warranty are being replaced by the contractor. The 2013-2014 budget has allocated funds for a shade covering at Veteran's Park. So far it has not been cut from the budget. Tim Fousse thanks Alex Gonzalez and his crew for the tremendous work throughout these past few months. The parks and grounds have looked great. 10. Items for future agenda. Cibolo Fest 2013 Update on Baseball Complex Additional attributes for Schlather Park (duck pond) Would like aerial maps, so they can see where the parks are located in Cibolo. 11. Adjournment. Don Downey made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Ed Weinstein seconded the motion. All in favor, none opposed. Motion passed 7 to 0. Meeting adjourned at 7:04pm.
